re: In trying to cope with my frustrations, I am thinking that a good way to get kids to be eventual generative learners is to give them a series of questions to choose from. The students must read all the questions, but then select the questions they want to answer. So out of 20 questions, they select five.

Philip: this is a fabulous idea. When we have a task we want the students to be able to do, we need to scaffold our instruction to get them there, and I think you have created a great step on the way to being generative learners. Scaffolding is something I have struggled with from the beginning, and continue to.

Keep up the good work - I know you'll do well!!!
